Orbital Tumor

Orbital tumor is any mass that occurs within the orbit. It can be benign or malignant. Most are benign. It may be congenital or acquired later in life and originate from blood vessels, lymphatics, nerves, fats, muscles, bones, adjacent cavities, or elsewhere from the body remotely. CT scan or MR imaging is typical ordered to demonstrate the location and extent of the tumor, and a biopsy often performed to make the diagnosis. Treatment of orbital tumor varies, depending on the type, size, location and sign/symptom. Some require no treatment, and others may have to be removed, treated medically or with radiation or chemotherapy. The goal is to maintain vision when possible and preserve life.
